Chanukah at Yeshivat Ohr David
What
a treat for Shabbos to start off Chanukah!! At Ohr David,
we took full advantage. It started with an in-shabbos with
Rabbi Hershoff. Friday night, everyone lit together in the
dining room. Davening was led by Levi Kelman with a beautiful
Lecha dodi. He used many different Chanukah songs and the
entire Yeshiva was dancing at Bo’i V’eshalom.
It was truly a beautiful way to start off Chanukah. Following
Lecha Dodi, Rabbi Hershoff spoke about the beauty of having
a Shabbos Chanukah in Yerushalayim, and how shabbos is our
greatest gift.
Motzei Shabbos the bochurim attended Chanukah Mesibot by
their morning seder rabbeim. Each rebbe hosted his shiur and
divrei torah and dreidel carried them through the night.
Sunday
night was the mesiba in yeshiva. It started with catered roast
beef and home-made schnitzel and latkes. We were treated to
beautiful divrei torah from Jo-Jo Friedman and Yoni Kaufman.
Really Impressive!!!! They spoke about how important a time
like Chanukah is to gear up for the rest of the zman, and
for that matter the rest of their lives.
Then came the highlight of the night. We had part 1 of our
Yediot Klaliot marathon. Two
months before, the guys were given sheets with thoughts and
terms in Judaism. The tension was thick and the excitement
present as the contest began. Those that made it past the
first round of questions were awarded a shwarma from Massov.
Our Grand prize winner, Shimon Grunin, received a $125 gift
certificate for seforim at Shanky’s. Part 2 …
soon to come……
After the contest we heard Divrei Chizuk from the Rosh Hayeshiva,
Rabbi Granofsky followed by dancing and music by Avromi Halpern
one-man band.
After dancing, we all joined in a kumzitz led by our very
own Rabbi Berry, and that lasted way into the night. One boy
commented “ So this is what they meant about Chanukah
in Israel! Wow! It really Rocks”!!
